About the Artist

Artist Bio

Leslie Nelson is a ceramic artist based in Urbandale, Iowa, who is passionate about creating sculptural and functional works that explore memory, nature, and human emotion. Her pieces often feature floral motifs and layered textures, reflecting a hands-on approach and careful attention to detail. Inspired by motherhood, personal experiences, and a love for growth and gardening, Leslie’s work weaves her personal narrative with the cycles of life, inviting reflection and connection.

 

She recently completed an 18-month mentorship with master potter Amy Palatnick, honing her wheel skills and evolving her personal style. Leslie has shared her creative process with the public as a demonstration artist at the Iowa State Fair since 2024, captivating audiences with her techniques and love for the material. Through ongoing experimentation with forms, textures, and glazes, Leslie creates pieces that are visually compelling, emotionally resonant, and quietly intimate, offering viewers a space to pause, reflect, and connect with everyday beauty.
